In 2022, Google introduced continuous scroll for desktop users, making it much harder to “hide a dead body” because “page 2” effectively ceased to exist.
Naturally, the search setting for the number of search results per page, which most SEOs set to 100 by default, no longer made sense, so Google removed it.
Fast-forward to June 2024, and Google has reverted to the classic pagination model for the desktop search results. However, the “results per page” setting has never reappeared.
So, how can an SEO specialist get 100 results on the SERP now?
You can use a little-known URL parameter with a Google search URL. And yes, it’s little known even to those who know what URL parameters are 🙂
You have two options: manually add it every time you need it or automate the process for every search.
Option 1: Add “num=100” to the end of the search URL
When on the SERP, click on the address bar and use the End button on Windows or the Fn+Right arrow on Mac to jump to the end of the URL. Then, type or paste “&num=100” and press Enter.
This will give you 100 organic search results.
Note: I have the search results positions and SEO metrics because I’m using Ahrefs and their SEO Toolbar.
In my opinion, you can place this URL parameter somewhere in between other parameters, but adding it at the end is faster.
This works well as a one-time solution. But if you want every search on Google to return 100 results, you can spend 1 minute of your time doing this:
Option 2: Add a custom search engine in Chrome
Here’s how to do that:
1. Click on the three dots in Chrome’s top-right corner and access the Settings.
2. Click on the Search engine -> Manage search engines and site search.
3. In the Search Engines section, click on the pencil next to Google or Google (default).
4. Copy the contents of the URL with %s in place of query field.
This code is what enables your browser to search on Google directly from the browser bar, pulls automplete, history, etc. Note that this code can vary for different users or may change over time. I’ll leave mine below, just in case:
5. Click Cancel to return to the search engines settings and click the Add button
6. Give your new search method a name and a shortcut (more on this later) and paste the code into the URL with %s in place of the query field.
Then, add &num=100 at the end of the code and click Save.
7. (Optional) Set this custom search engine as your default search.
How to use
Now, type your search query into Chrome’s URL bar and press Enter. You will get a 100-result Google SERP.
If you don’t want the 100-result SERP to be your default search experience, skip step 7. You can type the shortcut from step 6 into the URL bar, hit Space, and Chrome will use your predefined search method for this particular search.
Pro tip
If you’re using Ahrefs, get their SEO Toolbar. With it, you can view SEO metrics for all 100 search results and export them, along with their most important SEO metrics, into a .csv file.

Step 1: Open Chrome Browser
Firstly, open the Chrome browser, then type takeout.google.com.
Step 2: Sign in to Google
It will ask for a sign-in process, so sign in with your Gmail and password.
Step 3: Deselect All
Scroll down and first deselect all.
Step 4: Select Chrome Data
Now scroll down and select Chrome bookmarks, history, and other settings from Chrome. You will see multiple formats; all Chrome data is included.
Step 5: Click on “Next”
Scroll down, then click on Next.
Step 6: Select Delivery Method
Now select the delivery method. You can select Dropbox, OneDrive, or Email. Choose your preference.
Step 7: Select File Type and Size
Select the file type and size. It’s recommended to choose .zip files as they can be opened on almost any computer. Choose the size according to your requirements and your Chrome data.
Step 8: Create Export
Click on Create Export. Google will create a copy of your Chrome data. This process can take a long time, possibly hours or days to complete. You will receive an email when your export is complete.
Step 9: Download Your Data
Once the export is complete, you will get an email from Google Takeout saying your data is ready to download.
Click on Download your file.
Step 10: Open the Downloaded File
Now, open the downloaded file. You will see old files here like extensions, search, browser history, reading list, and bookmarks.
