How is BMI Calculated?
The BMI formula is straightforward: Weight (kg) / [Height (m)]². For imperial measurements (pounds and inches), the formula is multiplied by a conversion factor of 703.
Limitations of BMI
While our BMI Checker is highly accurate mathematically, BMI itself is not a perfect measure of health. It does not distinguish between muscle mass and fat. Therefore, highly muscular athletes may fall into the “overweight” or “obese” category despite having low body fat percentages.
